Halloween 2011!!! - Halloween of Past Years

I've had this in the works again, on and off for a month...

October always causes some reflection for me - as it was back in October 2007 that everything got turned around with the fires. Now four years later - there are times when I still feel off, to suddenly have almost no past that you can point to. While it is true that the thing you own ended up owning you - they also place you. Without stuff/things you are almost lacking context. As much as we scoff at materialism - it's different when most of it disappears. One way of dealing for me has been to try and dig up what I still have - for the most part off my computer.

Amazingly - here's a pic from pre-2007, which is rare. At that time - Scheckey (the monkey) wasn't really a firm idea then - I had been thinking of having numerous monkeys. In the end, one monkey made the cut.

At any rate, Happy Halloween folks!

Fall-ish 2011

It's almost that time....

Film Noir Thumbnails - Project Update

Currently in the class that I'm TAing in we are working on personal projects to storyboard for the rest of the semester. I pulled out an unfinished group project from years ago - a film noir short. I've been working on this thing slowly over the last few years - worked on the femme fatale's desgin, etc.

Here are some thumbnails and rough boards that I've been tinkering around with... A lot of editing and writing to still do.

Riddle of the Sphinx....Concept Sketch

Ever so often I dig into my external hard drive and look over old sketches. This sketch from 2007 was part of the mess that was my thesis project. The idea I was playing around with sort of a mash-up of the two types of sphinxes that are out there - the Egyptian and the Greek. I still like the idea so I tossed the sketch around again just for some fun.

Daring Monkey Adventures!!! (circa 2005)

Daring Monkey Adventure - circs 2005 from scotland barnes on Vimeo.

One of the many items on my "to-do" list (from hell) is upload a lot of my storyboards as story reels. Before I get all crazy doing this I thought I'd test this out by uploading something - luckily I still have one old piece of animation that did not get burned up in the fire years ago.

SO - Here is Captain Archibald C. Scheckey making his action packed debut (circa 2005)! It's estenially a spoof/homage to the opening in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Hey if you're going to steal - you steal from the best. The biggest problem is that takes a bit of waiting to get to the actual film....should go back and shorten the lead in.

Now you know why I never became an animator - and stuck to story and character design....and knowing is half the battle.

Memory Sketch from Character Design Class

This is another morning sketch - but also a memory sketch from my character design class that I teach in the evenings. So far this semester I've been pretty luck to have some really great models for the class.

Morning Demo Sketch Finished (Another One!!!)

Another "early morning" sketch that I started before my photoshop class start (my students almost always arrive late - the bums). Since I got a wonderful headache this afternoon (starting to pass...) I thought I added in some color and such.

Frankenstein boards - Part 2

I had originally hoped that I was going to keep this simple....and that did not happen. 147 images for a little under two pages....kinda over kill. And there's actually more images that I wan to put in - hook ups, a few close-ups, etc.

But I wanted to but this up as it is - a work-in-progress. Most people just post finished work, and in storyboarding you really never have that. There's always something you'd like to do - something that you want to polish....but time is a relentless task-master...
